Privacy policy
Effective November 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Yomi ("Yomi", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses and shares information when you use the Yomi app for Android, the web app at learnyomi.com, and any related websites and services (together, the "Service").
By using the Service, you agree to the collection, use and sharing of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Information we collect
We collect information you provide to us, information created when you use the Service, and limited technical information. Depending on the features you use, this may include:
| What we store | Details |
|---|---|
| Your name | Shown in the app. It can be any name you like. |
| How you sign in | Passkeys: the public key only (your fingerprint or face stays on your device). Email sign-in: your email address and a password, stored only as a secure hash. A one-time recovery code, also stored only as a hash. |
| Phone number (optional) | Only if you add one in Settings. |
| Your learning data | Your seders and commitments, each Done, make-up and skip, badges, reminders and settings (language, theme, time zone and so on). This is what syncs between your devices. |
| Your place (optional) | If you set a location for zmanim: the place name and a point rounded to about a kilometre. "Use my location" reads your phone's position on the phone itself. Only the place name and the rounded point are saved. |
| Reminders | On Android, reminders are scheduled on your phone. In a web browser, we store the browser's push address so we can send the reminder. Delivery goes through your browser's own push service (for example Google, Apple or Mozilla). |
| Your inbox | The notifications in the app's bell (a reminder, a streak, a badge). |
| Calendar feed (optional) | If you turn on calendar sync, a private link your calendar app reads your learning from. |
| Feedback and messages you send | Bug reports, feature ideas and Contact us messages: the text, a screenshot if you attach one, the email address you give for our reply, and basic details to help fix bugs: app version, language, theme, text size, device and browser type, screen size and time zone. |
| Automatic crash reports | If the app hits an error on your device, it sends a short technical report so we can fix it: the app version, which screen you were on, the error message, your browser or device type, and the time. It is not designed to include your name, email, account or anything you wrote, and no network address is stored with it. |
| Sign-in sessions and security records | So you stay signed in, and to stop abuse: when a session was created and last used, and short-lived limits on sign-in attempts (which briefly include your network address). |
| Your notes (optional) | Notes you write in the Notebook or on a page of a text, so they sync between your devices. |
| PDFs you upload (optional) | A PDF you add to your Library, with its name, size and any marks you make on it, kept in private file storage that only your account can open. |
| Minyan corrections you send (optional) | When you use Suggest a fix on a minyan: the shul, the times or note you sent, a photo if you attach one, your account number (or, if you're signed out, a scrambled code for your device, never the code itself), and an email address only if you give one so we can thank you. A short scrambled code of your network address limits abuse. |
| Gabbai claims (optional) | If you claim a shul as its gabbai: the shul, how you proved it (the shul email or phone you used and the page where it's listed), your account number, and a scrambled copy of your private gabbai key. Changes you make to the shul's times are logged. |
| Waitlist email (optional) | If you join a waitlist for something not ready yet: your email address, the app language and where you signed up, so we can tell you when it's ready. It isn't linked to an account. |
Your learning data is also stored on your device so the app can work offline. It is removed from the device when you sign out or clear the app's data.
2. How we use information
We may use the information we collect to:
- provide, operate and maintain the Service, including syncing your data between your devices;
- create and secure your account, and let you sign in;
- send reminders and notifications you set up, and service messages such as sign-in and password-reset codes;
- calculate zmanim, show nearby minyanim and look up places you search for;
- respond to your feedback, questions and requests;
- review and apply minyan corrections and gabbai claims;
- diagnose problems, fix bugs and improve the Service;
- detect, prevent and respond to abuse, fraud, security incidents and other harmful activity; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of use.
3. How we share information
We may share information in the following circumstances:
- Service providers. We use third-party providers that process information on our behalf to run the Service, including:
- hosting, database and file storage (Cloudflare);
- email delivery (Resend), which sends sign-in and password-reset codes, and notices to our support inbox when you send feedback or a Contact us message;
- place and address search (Open-Meteo and OpenStreetMap services), which receive the words you type in a search, sent from our servers; and
- web push delivery through your browser's own push service (for example Google, Apple or Mozilla), if you turn on reminders in a web browser.
- Public minyan information. Corrections you submit about a shul's times may be used to update the minyan listings shown to all users. Your name and email are not shown with them.
- Legal reasons. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that doing so is required by law, regulation or legal process, or is necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Yomi, our users or others.
- Business transfers. If the Service is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
- With your consent or at your direction.
We may also share information that is aggregated or de-identified so that it cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
4. Texts and third-party content
Torah texts in the reader are served from Yomi's own copy of freely licensed texts and texts used with the publisher's permission. The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third parties, and their own policies apply.
5. Where information is processed
The Service is hosted on infrastructure operated by our service providers, and information may be stored and processed in the United States and other countries where they operate. Those countries may have data protection laws different from those where you live.
6. Data retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide the Service and for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law. In general:
- Your account and learning: until you delete your account.
- Sign-in sessions: end after 400 days without use, and are then removed automatically. Signing out ends that session at once.
- Sign-in codes: expire after 10 minutes (30 for a password reset) and can be used once.
- Sign-in attempt limits, including the network address: cleared about a day after they lapse.
- Records of reminders already sent: 3 days.
- Automatic crash reports: 30 days.
- Browser push addresses that stop working: removed automatically.
- Notes and PDFs you upload: until you delete them or your account.
- Minyan corrections and gabbai claims: the correction itself is kept, because it is about a shul's public times. When you delete your account, your account number and email are taken off it.
- Waitlist emails: until we've told you, or sooner if you ask us to remove it.
- Feedback and Contact us messages: kept so we can follow up, and deleted with your account or when you ask. The email notice of each one stays in our support inbox until we delete it.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information, such as encrypted connections (HTTPS) and storing passwords and recovery codes only as secure hashes. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of any information.
8. Your choices
- You can view and change your account details in Settings → Account & data.
- You can download your history with Export history in Settings.
- You can turn reminders, calendar sync and location off at any time, and decline location permission on your device.
- You can sign out of one device, or of all devices at once.
- You can contact us with questions or requests about your information at support@learnyomi.com. Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable law to access, correct or delete your information, and we will respond to requests as required by that law.
9. Deleting your account
In the app or at learnyomi.com: Settings → Account & data → Delete my account, then type DELETE to confirm.
This deletes your account from every device: your name, sign-in details, email and phone, passkeys, every seder and commitment and its history, reminders, inbox, calendar feed, your notes, the PDFs you uploaded (with your marks on them) and any feedback and screenshots you sent. Minyan corrections and gabbai claims you sent stay with the shul, but your account number and email are taken off them. A waitlist email isn't tied to an account: to remove it, email us. It can't be undone. If you'd like a copy first, use Export history in Settings.
Can't sign in? Email support@learnyomi.com from the address on your account (or tell us your account name) to ask us to delete it.
10. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@learnyomi.com so we can delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated policy on this page and change the effective date above. Your continued use of the Service after the updated policy is posted means you accept it.
12. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, write to support@learnyomi.com or use Settings → Contact us in the app.
